So it’s really not surprising that the number of complaints regarding the smell of marijuana received by local authorities increased spectacularly since legalisation came about. More often than not, it’s a case of disgruntled neighbours not exactly taking kindly to the smell of the mini-pot plantation next door, or the distinctive aroma of blunts being blazed in the back garden. They consider the smell alone to be nothing less than a public nuisance and insist that it is of the utmost importance that restrictions be enforced on where and when marijuana can be smoked. Which is already the case, but given the fact that we are talking about people’s homes and gardens here…well, what more can you do?

Technically speaking, the whole argument is nonsensical as if you were to now restrict the use of recreational marijuana to such an extent that it affected smokers in their own homes, where the hell would you be able to smoke the damn stuff? Realistically it just isn’t going to happen – the fact that it would be almost impossible to police alone making it entirely implausible. As far as others are concerned, a line needs to be drawn with regard to tolerance as there is a very big difference between those in close proximity to you enjoying an occasional smoke and those who insist on turning their entire homes into 24-hour hotboxes.

And if they put restrictions on smoking at home, you’re just going to smoke elsewhere and no doubt p**s off another bunch of critics.
