The state of Louisiana is known across the US for being nothing short of mean when it comes to targeting recreational marijuana users holding the smallest amounts of bud. In fact, more than 90% of all cannabis arrests every year are for low-quantity possession, which depending on the circumstances can see those nabbed locked away for a long time. Probation is normal for those caught with cannabis for the first time, but if you’re picked up again for similar offences, you can kiss your freedom goodbye. Incredibly, a Louisiana Court went so far as to sentence one man to life in prison, after being busted four times for cannabis offenses. If he’d lived in some of the more lenient American States, he’d have been a free man with a relatively clean record.
